About the event

Over time, the 4921 Reading Room Society has grown into a bridge between new neighbours and the wider North Shore community. Sustained entirely by nearly 30 volunteers, it reflects a shared commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a growth mindset—a place where stories, resources, and friendships meet.


Founded in 2018 as a registered non-profit cultural organization, 4921 began by offering access to Chinese-language books, bringing new titles to its shelves with a speed and responsiveness that reflected the needs of a growing community. While shared cultural roots were the starting point, the intention has always been broader: to create pathways into the life of the wider community and build connection beyond language. Through regular events—including book clubs, talks, and community gatherings—the reading room has connected new families with local resources and institutions, welcoming speakers and collaborators from the municipality, library, community centre, art museum, and police department, while also organizing…
